action plan

Action plan definition

The Working Environment Act andthe HSE Regulations require the company to identify hazards and problems and, on this basis, assess risk, as well as prepare associated plans and measures to reduce risk conditions. In other words, the requirement for systematic HSE work presupposes that the company prepares a action plan with measures to be implemented.

The action plan should provide a good overview of what needs to be improved in the business and what should be prioritized first. Good action plans can potentially limit hazards and/or injuries in the workplace, as well as ensure efficient operation, implementation and follow-up of the relevant measures.

Read about how an action plan should be included inthe HSE handbook.

What is an action plan?

An action plan is a written document that may be the result of a completed survey or risk assessment. It must be documented and show how the company works to promote Health, Safety and Environment in the company.

The action plan should be an overview of strategic actions that will enable the company to achieve its established goals. It can be valid for several years, but should be reviewed annually. It is also important that it is made known in the business.

How to create an action plan?

To create a good action plan, the following points should be considered after the business has mapped and identified what hazards and problems exist:

  • Objectives based on the problem/hazard (risk relationship) identified
  • Prioritization of what should be done first.
  • Which measures to implement
  • Who is responsible for ensuring that the measures are implemented
  • When the measure should be completed
  • Confirmation that the measure has been implemented

To ensure that the measures are implemented, the action plan should be as specific as possible, and should be limited to issues to be started or resolved during the year.
