Management's review

Why the management review?

Management Review is most often used colloquially, but in the ISO standards it is called Management Review. Either way, the Management Review is a meeting where management goes through a concentrated presentation of the most important information about the management system with the intention of making further choices and provisions for further operation.

If you have a management system, regardless of the standard or template you follow, it is essential that the management of the company receives a regular thorough review of the status so that they can assess the effectiveness of their own business in relevant areas. ISO14001/9001 and OHSAS18001 and standard Norwegian HSE require this. It also ensures the effectiveness of the management system. It improves and controls the direction/continuous improvement work. It is also the case that many are good at planning and implementation, but poor at follow-up and control, and the management review ensures follow-up and control. Last, but not least, senior management must be involved and receive information about how the system has worked.

How Management review?

ISO standards state that the management review must be carried out at planned intervals (annually) and conducted by senior management/management team. There are requirements for INPUT and OUTPUT (decisions) and requirements for written documentation.

Input requirements

  • Results from internal audits including compliance with laws/requirements
  • Customer complaints and feedback
  • Performance/measurements
  • Achievement of goals and sub-goals, proposals for new/changed goals
  • Process performance (short description per main process)
  • Product deviation (from Better )
  • Status of corrective and preventive actions
  • Follow-up of previous reviews
  • Changes in the business and environment
  • Recommended improvements

Output requirements

  • Possible changes of policy
  • Any changes to goals/sub-goals
  • Any product changes/improvements
  • Any other changes to the management system
  • Resource requirements (the company's expertise and capacity situation)

A good management review requires good preparation: gathering information about quality, environment and HSE work and setting it up in a clear way for management. The implementation must be planned carefully and the results of the reviews must also be recorded and followed up. In 4human QM365 We have extensive experience in helping customers conduct management reviews. Our systems Manage and Better also have great features that easily collect all the necessary information for Input and take care of follow-up points from Ouput. There are several examples online of how this can be done.
