Good quality management ensures continuous improvement. The focus of a company that works with quality management is the customer.

In connection with the ISO 9001:2015 version that came out in September 2015, the Norwegian translation of quality management system was changed from quality management to quality management. This is partly to take into account that the standard places significantly stricter requirements on management's commitment and participation in the quality system.

Quality management is normally a fundamental need in any business. Many have implemented quality control schemes or elements of quality management. If you are going to work with a quality management system according to ISO 9001, you must implement all the required functions of such a system.

The fundamentals of a quality management system, or management system, are that it follows these steps:

1. Understanding your context

In a quality management system, the primary stakeholder is the customer.

According to ISO9001, you must conduct a mapping and understand your context . This was introduced as a new concept in 2015 and expands how to work with your company's stakeholders.

To understand your internal and external context , you need to have identified more stakeholders than just the customer, and take this analysis further into mapping the business's risk and requirements picture.

2. Requirements for process orientation

For a long time, there has been a requirement for process thinking in an ISO-based quality system. This requirement was strengthened in 9001:2015. The purpose of a process-oriented management system is, among other things, better flow and interaction through the business, clearer understanding and requirements for orderliness in the handover between steps in the process and to provide flexibility beyond the distances that can sometimes arise between departments, processes or functions in a classic organizational structure.

3. Quality management and ISO 9001 certification
